uh oh.... i found something else i really really enjoy... and please don't get mad at me, my hardcore-runner-blogger-friends. lol i'm not cheating on running... but maybe a threesome???
my day began with a lot of shopping... got some new running clothes, shorts, etc, and a new funky pair of Oakley sunglasses...

i even look athletic wearing them! LOL --- i'll take anything i will help achieve the look ha ha :) so if you see me on the running somewhere, i may look fast, but i'm totally deceiving you... muhahahaha.
ok, then Jay got the itch--to upgrade his bike. His bike is about 15 years old, 1/2 my age! and in BAD shape... so we started looking at new ones. Mission accomplished... he picked one out, but it's not yet built, so he'll pick it up on Tuesday.
My bike is still pretty new, I only got it in May, just before my vacation, in an effort to make sure I cross-train, and to do something with my son during the summer. I have only managed about 3 rides since I've bought it, and each time, my son was with me, so it was hard to really pick up a lot of speed and just go.
Jay's daughter was with us today, and really wanted to go for a bike ride, so with my new shades, newish bike, Jay on his old bike, riding with his daughter, off we went.
Since I didn't necessarily need to be on kid-watch, keeping their pace, I was finally able to really put the bike to the test... and I loved it! Maybe it's because i'm not a very fast runner, but being able to really feel the wind, and go fast, i felt so free! We went for about 9km before she got tired, so we got back to the house, but I managed to convince them to continue the journey for just a few more minutes.
Wednesday was the last time I ran, and it was a really bad one. Since then, I have done some active resting... an oxymoron right?? LOL Rather than running, I did other stuff; biking and yoga on thursday, and a full-body and core weight training workout yesterday. Tomorrow I'm planning on going for an LSD run with the group, so I wanted to see how the leg felt after a few days of not running. So I put away my bike, ran into the house, downed a gel and some water, changed into my running shoes and we did a super short, quick run. Only 1.36k, but again, it's purpose was just to make sure there was no pain, and there wasn't! Phew!
My eating today sucked, and even though i was planning on a short easy run today to test the leg, I didn't think we'd be out shopping as long as we were, and didn't anticipate the bike ride. So even though I would have loved to run longer and farther, i wasn't properly fueled, it was already 7:30pm, and we still had to hit the grocery store for a few things for dinner!
Anyway, this was my very first, cheesy effort at a 'brick'. Not sure that a triathlon would ever be in my future -- I like swimming, I'm really starting to take a liking to cycling, and I love running -- my threesome ;) My father in law has a pool in his backyard, but swimming in open water would be the most challenging given our geography, harsh winter months, and perhaps a fear of swimming in Lake Ontario LOL.
Just not sure how I would be able to properly train, let alone the time it would require, as I would need to go to a gym with a pool, or somewhere to train, rather than just lacing up or getting on a bike right from the house. A Sprint Tri would be very cool though, just to say that i tried... hmmm.
But maybe doing some more biking, and continuing my running would compliment each other well, provide a great variation to my workouts, scenery, experiences, and open up new possibilities and events.
something to think and blog about anyway :)
A very happy Father's day to all the daddies out there...

A sprint tri sounds awesome to me!
Good for you on the glasses, I got the XLJs last year for Father's Day, they're awesome!
What no action bike shots?
oh how I long to get a pair of glasses that fit my small head properly and DON'T fog! lol Good for you on getting your speedy ones. ;)
I used to bike a lot but stopped because I ran more. Then last year I commuted to work most of the time with the bike and this year I got my new bike. Even though I am being forced to use it right now instead of running... I to plan on continuing and maybe, just maybe, next year I may tri a tri. :)
Glad to hear there was no pain and hope today's LSD went well!
i love to bike too, but for some reason, i never ride that often, it's something that i want to start doing this summer, but i would think that it would only help your running- biking is really good for legs and core. keep up the great work!
I bet more people would go complete triathlons if we called them "threesomes" :)
It's something I'd be interested in trying one day, but I'm not a fan of swimming...unless you count sitting in the pool with a daquiri.
