"I can" -- training like a champion

no, i haven't hired a professional coach, i don't even have the delusional vision of breaking a World Record, so you can all breathe a sigh of relief. LOL

Being a mother of a very active boy, I often hear myself telling him to always give 100%, or even more!  To think positive, and strive to achieve, and always believe.  Never give up, and focus on a goal.  Work towards it, and dream.  Possibilities are endless, and he can be anything he wants to be, as long as he wants it.

If it's so easy to say to someone else, why is it so difficult for me to do?  Why do I let my negative thoughts change the positivity I had at the beginning.  Why don't I believe in myself?  If my body feels like it can continue, why do I let my thoughts sabotage that.

This has been my training over the last 6 weeks... mental training.  I was sent a book a few weeks ago, Runner's World Complete Book of Running.  (took the pic from Amazon's website, you can't actually click on the book for more info! LOL)

Part 6 of the book is The Mental Side of Running, starting with "How to Think Like a Champion"

There's a quote from Henry Ford -- "If you think you can do it, you're right.  If you think you can't do it, you're still right."

How true.  This is what I try to point out to my son, and will try to consciously keep this with me next time my thoughts get the better of me.

I guess I've been thinking about it more, as I'm hopeful that I'll hear the words I've been wanting to hear on Thursday.... "You can start running again... " even if I'm sure it will come with conditions such as: starting only on a treadmill, walk/run intervals, slowly, little bits at a time, etc.  I just want to get out there with a fresh outlook, a new mind-frame.

The cold meds are certainly starting to do their "thing".  I'm in a very happy place right now, so good night :)

Hey Melanie,

Thanks for cheking out MY blog LOL! I am sorry that we didn't offically meet. But I am more than sure that we will see each other again in the future.

I read your entries everyday and I love them! Running and being a Mom full time is difficult. Good job!

See you at the races!

I'm so glad you've been able to use some of this "down time" for mental training. I totally hear you, that can be the hardest part.

It's about time you started taking your own advice. :)

GOOD LUCK AT THE APPT'S!

I agree with Marlene, it's all a mind game, if you can see yourself doing it you can do it!

That's one of my favorite quotes! Running is a huge mental sport.

Some dude told me that runners weren't athletes. I just laughed in his face (and thought to myself that I could totally beat him in a race).
