footprints in the sand

Snow yesterday, more snow today, turning to rain.  Mild temperatures, leaving a brown slushy mess where I was running most of the times, as the sidewalk plows had yet to clear a path.  By the time I hit the end of my street, my feet were already wet through my soaked shoes from splashing around in the slush.  Had an SUV swerve towards me, hands raised as if questioning why I wasn't using the unplowed sidewalk instead.  Who cares.  He was number 1 on my hit list today.

One of the side streets, which had yet to even be plowed had some fresh snow, had a nice soft layer fresh snow.  Sinking into the snow a bit with each step, I tried to convince myself that I was running through sand, leaving a trail of my footprint behind me.  The whiteness of the snow reminded me of White Sands National Monument I visited in New Mexico a few years ago. The cool snow falling on my face was actually a mist from the ocean, which by the way was why my feet were wet, waves coming in, not from the sloshy wet snow covered street...silly.

Ahhh, well, a girl can dream right. It got me through a quick 4.5k run. I got home, and wouldn't you know, the sidewalk plow drives by! Number 2 on my hit list lol. Nowhere else but Canada will you cool down from your run and stretch by shoveling... ugh.  I had to get it done...

Got inside to sync up my Garmin and iPod... and my mac's screen is sitting there flashing a folder and question mark at me!  OMFG.... my hard drive crashed.  Number 3 on my hit list....

It has been one of those days.

Went out, purchased a new hard drive, put it in, installed software, and trying like mad to restore all I had from Time Machine backups, but I can't seem to find any of my documents, music or pictures anywhere.

I'm am absolutely heartbroken right now.  Music is a pain in the butt, if I can't get it back, it will take me a lot of time to get my library back to what it was... frustrating.  Documents, well, still a pain...I had some rather important stuff in there, same with emails.  But pictures... I am crying about. I've lost about 2 years worth of memories from when I had my seizures... when my son was young... a lot of his firsts. I don't remember his first steps, words, or much of his early years... those years and memories I'll never get back, but was able to look back at pictures... if those are gone now too, I will be crushed.

It may be a few days before I catch up with some of you, as I try to rebuild my bookmarks, RSS feeds, etc.  Thankfully I got my run in before the hard drive crash, as I'm sure I would have lacked the motivation to get out there, even though I know it would probably help with stress or whatever.

Ohhhhh, i can't wait for today to be over.

Yikes! I hope you get your docs and pics restored. I just started using Time Machine for backups. Let me know if you need any help with getting the TM backups restored.

Hang in there. Those days really stink. I have an external hard drive on that I backup all my pictures on. That might be an option if this time you are able to.

Wow that is a rough day! I hope you can get everything back..that would be a real horrible thing- especially pictures. Glad the run helped and as a fellow Canuck, I feel your winter blues. I did today's 6km on a dreadmill and tomorrow's 10km may be the same. :( I hope you have a much better day tomorrow, isn't that how life works. :)

I hate it when the snow turns brown ans slushy. Nice job getting out there.

Is there an apple store near you? I would bring it in to them to restore the pictures. They are usually really good. I am pretty sure the pictures aren't lost, they just need to be recovered.

I recommend that you talk to a tech pro. It is worth spending a few bucks to hire an expert so you dont lose those precious memories forever. Good luck.

I, too, recommend talking to a computer techie. We've recovered stuff we were sure was gone when our hard drive crashed on our PC. {{{HUGS}}} HOpe you can get the important stuff back.

My tummy did flips reading your post. I feel for you. Maybe one of those services can restore some of the stuff you were unable to. Sounds like you took action and will overcome!

Wow, I have only got cold weather, some rain, some ice, but no beautiful snow. I like the snow as long as I get to stay home infront of my fireplace and read.

Awww sry about the bad day! Is there such things as do-overs?
I always wonder how a person runs in a foot of snow.
