My son was shown to the basement (sounds horrible, doesn't it), but by 10pm, I had a hard time getting him outta there! He hit it off immediately with the hosts' son, who is about 6 months younger and some of the other runners' kids... so I'm glad he came. With the kids, there ended up being about 23 of us...

Thankfully I ran yesterday -- we had to get a second table out of the hosts' basement to accomodate all the food! After a lot of eating, a little drinking, enjoying dessert, we headed over to do the gift exchange. Kris Kringle style, pick a number, lowest number picks a gift first, then the person after has the option of stealing someone else's gift or opening a new one.
I got #13 out of 16 participants... I never get that lucky! For the most part, everyone felt bad "stealing" from someone else, so the majority just picked new ones...
Whoever's gift I got obviously did not follow the rules... we had set an amount of $20.
I got the Reebok ankle (?) pouch thing, to hold keys, money etc for running, a Clif Peanut Toffee Buzz Bar, Strawberry Banana Gu, Mandarin Orange ROC2O Nutrilite pack, a Simply Nutrilite Tropical Sport liquid, and a gift card for the LCBO, Ontario's Liquor store, for $25! Do you think that whoever brought this gift read my blog yesterday, about the Pomtini's, and thought perhaps that I indulge in these a little too much, and made sure that I got this gift? lol
Being that this was a gathering of other nutty runners, like myself, I was surprised at the end that this was the only running related gift, and that no one stole it from me! (I made sure to downplay the value of the gift card.. i think it worked *wink wink*) There was everything from coffees, martini glasses, iTunes gift cards, a pretty wide selection.
Once the gifts were done, checked the time, almost 10pm! Got my son out of the basement with the other kids, he filled up his belly with some more fruit, and we headed home, where he promptly fell asleep in the car.
I feel very fortunate to have found this group of wonderful people. It's already been just over a year since we started the HM clinic, sometimes feels like a lot longer.
Have a great day!

YAY!
Sounds like a great time. I agree, how was that the only running related gift in that group?
That sounds so wonderful. How lucky you were to win that gift AND find such a fun group of runners (with nice kids your son's age to boot). I always thought I liked to run alone, but you make me want to find a running group!
Wow, you scored. If I had been there, I would have stolen for sure!! LOL. Glad you had a good time!
Do you always lock your son in the basement?? LOL (j/k)

That sounded like so much fun. I would love to do something like that. I'm glad that your son hit it off with the group.
Great gift idea! I, too, feel so fortunate for my running club. It's so nice to have that group of people who share common goals.
