My son had a birthday party to attend yesterday afternoon, at a mall. At first, the idea of hitting the mall on the last saturday before Christmas made me cringe, but I got there early, found parking easily, and managed to get some last minute shopping done. Party ran about an hour late, so by the time I dropped him off at his dad's place (where he will be staying till Xmas day), I had to get home to get ready for a Christmas party at a friend's house. Ran out of time to run.
Today, I had absolutely no plan to run outside. It's been snowing off and on since Friday, roads are clearing up, but sidewalks still very snow covered. Maybe I'm wimping out this year, but I am so scared of reinjuring myself. Although I haven't gotten the nickname "Grace" like Kim has, it's been a rough year for me. I'm trying to do everything humanly possible to be safe.
Jay checked out a new gym in the area, and really wanted me to check it out to see if we may want to switch. It's a Snap Fitness gym, which when you're a member, is available to you 24 hours/day. You're given a key card which unlocks the door; staff is not always on premises. Well, when he was there yesterday, they told him that someone would be available until 4pm, so we got there for a workout at around 2:30pm... the soonest we could get there today. Door locked, sign on the door says that someone is there till 2pm only. Ugh! We didn't have our cards to hit the other gym, and Jay had lost his mojo for working out, so we did a bit of running around, got home, shoveled again, and chilled out. I could have gone the other gym on my own, but my car is absolutely buried in snow, and Jay only got his car a few weeks ago. Being so new, and road conditions being what they were, I decided to just stay put.
I'm ok with all this though because today was my official start to the 30k Around the Bay race that I am training for on March 29th. I had planned to run this race last year, but was injured, so it didn't happen, but I've heard great things about it. The first day of the training plan, today, was a day off, (Jay said he'd follow the first day of training with me.. and that was it) so I guess it officially starts tomorrow... so no harm done.
I first saw ElfYourself on GirlonTop's blog... and stayed up extra late on Thursday night to make one too! Thanks!! The kids loved it and laughed a lot when I showed them before heading to their last day of school. Enjoy!

Cute!
I could have done with a longer weekend, too.
I love the Elf yourself video. Those crack me up every time. :-)
Busy weekend. Sigh. That's how they are this time of year.
Weekends do go by too fast. Luckily, I am off this whole week.
Those Elf yourself videos always make me smile. Good luck getting out from the snow. Stay safe!
Bummer about the gym not being open when you got there!
Thanks for the ATB reminder.... I should register soon. That one sells our early.
Very cute card! Weekend did go by quick!
I love the Elfyourself videos! Hilarious :)
Cute video!
I agree about the weekends - should have taken today off work!
Ooh, I'm excited you have a March 29 race-- watching you have to train for that in weather which is (I'm pretty sure) worse than we've got down here will help me stay on track for my own March 29 race!
LOL, I love it!
Come over to my page for your chance to win a pair of new shoes!!! Nothing like new ones to start off the year in!
I think the weekend went by way to fast also. I'm sure this weekend will be the same.
Weekends never last as long as they should.
What happened to that 20 hour work week I was being promised as a kid? Why aren't robots doing 15 hours per week of my job!
Stupid robots! It's all "bleep-blorp!" but no real help at work. Always standing by the water cooler with the other 'bots going "Bleep-blorp"! Probably making fun of us humans in that stupid robot language, which is even harder to understand than Canadian!
Yay for the race in March. Good luck with your training.
Snap.. Snap fitness dude that is the best name ever. I'd constantly being saying stupid things like oh Snap and whatnot. :)
There was a weekend...when was was that...dang missed another one!
Life is just crazy this time of year.
That race looks like a fun one. My husband says he wants me to run all over Canada too LOL, so I'll have to keep that one in mind.
being safe in the snow and ice is not wimping out.
It's just a busy time of year. I am excited to follow you and your training for the 30K!
Happy Holiday's!
you definitely aren't 'wimping out' by not running in the snow/ice! and missing a few days won't hurt you, enjoy some extra time with the family!
