Couldn't take the zeros for too long

This being the first year of really tracking any mileage, I was very happy yesterday to see the Year to Date row on the left hand pane acknowledge the completion of my 1000k goal, but then wondered how I'd feel this morning when it would show zero.

But I decided to look at it as wiping the slate clean, a new beginning.  The end of a tough year, looking forward to a better one.  Luckily the running year to date total quickly changed with a 5k Resolution Run race this morning at 11am.  I aimed to stick with the 6:00/km pace bunny which was a friend of mine, ran with her for the first 2k, but managed to get ahead of them a little despite snow covered sidewalks.  Being a small event, not timed, it was a "for fun" race, just to get the year started off right.

I've never been one for making a new year's resolution, so I haven't, but in a constant effort to improve and continue learning, I will continue to work on nutrition, a cleaner diet and staying injury-free.

Hope you all had a wonderful time ringing in 2009, and look forward to continuing to be inspired by each and every one of you.

Those sound like excellent non-resolution-resolutions. :)

I wish I could say that I was in any condition to run at 11 this morning... I didn't drag my butt out there til almost 5 so of course I missed out on that bright sun that was making the temperature a *little* more bearable.

I felt the SAME way about the zeros! I had to get them filled in with something today :-).

The race sounds like a good start to 2009.

I love the 2nd chances stuff. You should be very proud of what you've overcome. Here's to another year of adding up some awesome "stats" on all our mileage counters!!!

No, Sistre, don't look to me for inspiration! I'll just drag you down with me. No! I insist! You go on ahead. Just leave me here on this ice floe, the way you Canadians do with your elders ...

Geez, Sistre, it didn't take you long into 2009 to get back into the swing of things. Down here in the States, everyone is too hung over to blog, much less run. So on behalf of all of us Americans I say:

Keep the noise down up there with all that running! We've got a killer headache down here!

Way to ring in the New Year, Sistre! Are your Canadian 5k races the same distance as our American ones?

I'm getting all confused now ...
