the concept is easy....

... lace up your shoes, head out the door, and place one foot in front of the other.  When I started running in May 2007, that's what it was; after the iPod was on of course.  I didn't think that almost 2 years later it would become a sort of 'addiction' and that running would come to mean so much more to me than just trying to shed a few pounds.

But as with anything, "stuff" accumulates over time.  I would come in the house after a run, shoes off, ipod next to the computer to sync up my run, stretch, shower, etc.  As I got a few extra things for running, like Body Glide, Garmin, my desk was starting to become a little cluttered.  I purchased a basket that would keep my running stuff in one place.

Behold the basket...

It makes me chuckle once in a while when searching for something in the basket.  Just like a woman's, or more specifically, a mother's purse, you can find almost everything including the kitchen sink!  The basket currently has:
  • Fuel Belt along with about 5 or 6 bottles
  • The Stick.
  • Body Glide
  • 3 hair elastics
  • pink Road I.D. anklet -- affectionately knows as a "roadkill bracelet" by one of my running group members
  • iPod with the Nike+ kit
  • 3 tubes of lip balm for windy/cold days
  • newly purchased Polar, GPS add-on, heart rate monitor
  • pink Under Armour hat.  Even though it's a ladies' fit hat, it 'rides up' and makes me look like a cone-head.
  • package of Sharkies, and a few loose ones at the bottom of the basket
  • black Under Armour hat.  Shhh, it's Jay's.  Not sure he's aware that it's gotten a new home :)  but since the pink one doesn't fit that well, i've been using this one...
  • black baseball hat
  • Timex watch for swimming... i need to get back in the pool
  • mittens
  • 2 pairs of insoles since I wear orthotics in my shoes.
  • gloves
  • 2 GU's
  • Sports drink mix
  • head-band style ear cover thingy
  • a quarter, Canadian... lol, that must have fallen out of my Fuel Belt since I carry some money in case of an emergency
  • head lamp that i purchased for a Halloween night time trail run last year
  • race bib belt
  • Garmin, Garmin's charger/usb, Heart rate monitor
  • sunglasses in a case
  • extra safety pins from previous races
While the act of running is the same, and sure, it doesn't have to be this complicated, there's so much more to just getting out there for a run!  Not that I need to add anything else, but what other items do you guys/gals have that I didn't mention?

Ran a feel-good 7k this morning, and tomorrow will be meeting the running group for our Sunday long run. We're supposed to get another dumping of the 'white stuff' starting this afternoon... hoping the roads will be ok tomorrow, and that we can run the full distance.  We'll see what happens...  Hope you're all having a great weekend :)

And they said running was an inexpensive sport? Ha!

you are so organized. my stuff is all over the place... kitchen table, coffee table, randomly on the couch... i wish i had never discovered all the great and convenient gear so all i needed was a layer of clothing and my shoes! :)

All that stuff in that tiny basket? Man, you ARE organized!!! That is a great idea.

Too true. I found with this past winter running, my laundry doubled and I have better outdoor running 'equipment' than for everyday life.
The basket is a great idea. Our stuff is everywhere.

We use plastic mile crates in our house and stack them on each other. Yeah, it used to be so simple.........

I bought a gym bag and have most of my stuff in it. That way if I want something and at park running I might have it.

That basket is a great idea. I am always scrounging around trying to find all my gear before runs. Thanks for the idea!

Very smart and pretty neat looking...I like it, might have to steal it. Yes, you need to put that Timex on and get into the pool!!!

I am SO buying a basket! My stuff is all over the dang house and never where I need it when I need it.

Hope the snow isn't too bad!

I like your basket- I just pile all my stuff up on a shelf right when I walk in the door. I've always loved that running so uncomplicated, but we sure find ways to make it less simple! Hope the long run goes well.

I'm like you with having a basket for my running gear - but I've had to upsize my basket! And add a crate for the bike gear and a bag for the swim gear. It does take over, doesn't it. (Shh - don't tell anyone because I think you're supposed to whine about that part, but I like that it's taken over my life. :D )

That is a GREAT idea! My running stuff is littered everywhere, & I'm sure I can log half a mile just going in circles inside my house gathering everything.

I have a basket too!!!! It has all my bonk breakers, water bottles etc in it! That's so funny that we each have baskets of running gear!!

You so should do a tri this year!!! Let me tell you, if I can do it-you can!!! I hadn't been in the pool in years!!!

Do it!! Pick a small one a do it!! I'm so not intimidated anymore!!

I used to think running was a sport to free the soul, but I've since realized that gadgets rule! Keeping track of things can be a second job. Way to stay organized!

I think I'm going to copy your idea! The basket is cute and it's unique. Not everyone could have a running basket!

Teh 'Bride makes piles. Then she goes out and gets these things she calls "Longabergers" or something, but that, to me, just look like baskets, and she puts the piles in them, and then THEY clutter up the house and she thinks she has "dealt" with the piles in some meaningful way.

My point being, you're delusional, just like Teh 'Bride, if you think piles in baskets aren't piles. And so are all of your friends (I'm looking at YOU specifically, joySashaY!) who have commented on "what a great idea this is!"

You're ALL certifiably Canadian, far as I'm concerned.

Plus - can I have that errant Canadian Quarter?!1!? Because since our economy's melt-down (here in the non-Third World), Canadian money is worth a LOT! That quarter is the equivalent of $100 American! I can't believe you just flung it into an embasket-ated pile!

Sharkies? I've never heard of those babies before!

You're so neat and organized. My stuff is everywhere :-X Except for my kicks because I'm anal about them :P

I started with a basket, and now it's the dinning room table and the entire hall closet.
I told my roommate I was going to start running and she told me we didn't have room for it!
Answer- Time for us to buy a bigger place.
She wasn't amused.

I'm so copying you and getting a basket! I'm sick of always searching for my sunglasses or my watch. Great idea.

He he that's funny I have a whole bunch of plastic storage boxes but the same principle...I guess a basket is a bit more feminine!
