thanks for your concern!

today had to be the most entertaining run yet.

After yesterday's run, I had played with a few settings on the Polar to use one of the features, more on that shortly. Once Terron left for school just before 8am, I had about 2 hours before I needed to attend a training class.

Inspired by Diana's post yesterday, I decided to do a mini-brick.  Hopped on the bike (which is on the trainer) for an easy 20 minute ride, then headed to the front door where I had placed an extra layer of clothes, my mitts, hat, and jacket.  Running outside in the winter takes so much more planning.

While riding, the Polar was beeping, flashing my heart rate, so I assumed it was because I wasn't in my target heart rate since it's lower when riding compared to running, so did my best to ignore it.

Once outside, it was doing the same.  I didn't want to bother stopping and standing still in the cold, already sweating from riding, trying to figure it out, so I turned up the music on my ipod a little more to tune it out.  It worked.

The beeping kept going and going.  I got to a stop light, heavy traffic, so I slowed to a walk.  An elderly gentleman also stopped at the light to cross turned to look at me, and gave me the up and down. He was giving me the stare down... eventually he cracked a little smile, tapped me on the arm and said "that's not a pace maker beeping at you is it?"  I busted out laughing! I thanked him for his concern, but assured him that I was ok, and that it was just my temperamental watch.  He wished me a good day.

Got onto a quiet side street, turned a corner, and saw a dog and its owner.  The dog started freaking out... I assume that the high pitch alert and constant beeping was audible to him, but not the owner yet given the distance between us.  The dog is jumping, circling the owner, I pictured the owner eventually being tied up by the dog's leash if this kept up long enough!  As I approached, the dog laid down... in the middle of the road, but I was turning on another street anyway, so we never actually crossed paths.

The bitter cold has finally ended; the sun has been shining for about the last 4 days, and it's starting to warm up a bit; it's great to 'a runner'.

Oh! And I met up with Marlene for lunch yesterday!  It was great to see you!

The lottery for Nike Women's Marathon opens today, the ladies from my running group and I have decided to register, keep your fingers crossed!  We didn't get in last year, but in hindsight, I was kinda glad, as 3 of us were injured.

Hope you're all having a great week :)

Ha ha! Your run sounds like something you'd see on a funny TV show. I can just picture the dog pulling its owner around and the owner having no idea what's going on! Good luck with the Nike Women's Marathon lottery!

Good luck with the lottery - I would love the run that race someday! Especially with a group of girls. How fun!

I wonder what that beeping was in dog language that would make that pup lay down in the road, haha. I hate stopping to check the watch when running. Is there a NO GIRLS ALLOWED marathon anywhere? jeez!

Good luck with that lottery!

I never hear my Garmin beep, maybe I listen to my ipod too loud? Hmmm...

Of course, I also never bothered to set it up to beep when my HR was too high or low, either.

Maybe I'll do a brick workout one of these days. Well, maybe a teeny tiny brick. It may be too much for me all at once.

What's funny...a pace maker DOES beep when you need a new battery. Friend's grandpa was rolling around town for a couple of months beeping. His mind is going a bit and thought there was an alarm clock or watch in the house that he couldn't find...it was actually him. He was due for a new battery.

Fingers crossed for you on the lottery!

I think those people (and that dog) just never saw a Canadian before. I've learned not to stare, but it took a long time, and it's still a struggle. When I get caught staring, I just make something up, like, "O, you remind me of something" (I mean to say someone, but it always comes out something).

I can kinda control my Canuck-stare now, but when you guys speak - "Mighty nice oot, today, eh?" - I just lose it again.

Like that dog.

Just spittin' Some Troof at ya, Sistre!

:0)

Totally LOL at your watch stories! Good luck with getting into the marathon.

Hey, you might as well amuse other people with your beeping while you run. I bet it's a little safer too, like a warning beacon "runner approaching!"
