Did you win?

When I found my race pics from ATB, I emailed them to my brother who lives out west, and my mom. She's pretty far removed from my running life, and will listen to my odd rambling about my races and training, etc. but I know she certainly doesn't relate.  My dad is a marathoner... mom has never been much into any sports.

Friday also happened to be my mom's birthday, so when I was on the phone with her, she commented on my pictures, and asked me what the pictures were for? Huh?  She then asked me if I won, were those pictures taken of me because I won the race?

Once I regained my composure, wiped the tears from my eyes from laughing so hard, I explained to her that race photographers are out there for most races trying to capture everyone's moment.  So, sorry mom for disappointing you... again; I'm not the elite runner that you picture me to be. LOL

I also finally brought my bike to the new place. I was waiting to have things a little more organized here, unpacked and put away first. Being that I no longer have a garage, don't want to leave it in the storage unit nor outside, I picked up a rack to keep my bike stored safely in the house, out of the way. The day after I bought the rack, I was watching tv, and the episode showed a New York City type of apartment, small and very stylish. They had a similar type of rack, with a road bike hanging in a hallway. Never thought of using my bike as a piece of art!

This week will be my peak week of training before the m-m-marathon.

Hope you all had a fabulous Easter, and have a great week!

Nice rack;) Our bikes are in our dining room...what was a dining room, who uses a dining room?

Yeah, some people don't get it. Next time, just say yes, it's because you won!

Nice rack! Why does that sound dirty?!

Eh, everybody's a winner.

My mom asked me what place I got in my marathon. She's so used to me placing in the tiny local races.

I remember a bike hanging in the hallway on Seinfeld, I think.

Lol, that's cute that she thought you won so they took your pic :)

Your bike is so pretty, it could easily count as art work. :)

Good luck with your peak week!

Nice bike rack.

LOL...my mom's the same. She finally came with me to a race, so she no longer thinks that I have any chance of winning, but I field questions like this from aunts, cousins and friends all the time.

seriously I too laugh when anyone asks me that...nice they even think I could!

Hey, everyone else is complimenting you on your rack today but I'd just like to point out that I was the first because I complimented you on your rack last week, even though it wasn't a bike rack.

Credit where credit is due, sistre.

By the way ... nice rack.

@Glaven... I won't forget that you were the first to comment. LOL

Love the bike rack!

My mom will tell me what the top runner wins in a local race...like I even have a chance of winning. Moms are funny.

My mother-in-law is like that. My mom, on the other hand, comes to all my races. In small local races, she usually counts the number of women who appear to be in my age group that come in before me so she can tell me as soon as I'm done.

Nice Rack! Now would I mean that in a dirty way?

So you mean to tell me all this time those race pictures I ordered of me wasnt cause I was the winner?? At least age group??? Boy do I feel ripped off.

My mom is the same. She watched the Nashville marathon last year and reported about the race outfits, and how I looked compared.. LOL. Thats (some) moms for you!

LOL! My in-laws are like that - when I told them I hit a "personal record" for my last race, they were all agog that I broke a record, until I explained that I just did better than I had before.

Chad in the AZ Desert said...

What, you mean you didn't win? ;-)

My inlaws don't have a clue about my running or why I do it. That's ok, they already think I'm crazy. I wouldn't want to disappoint them.

Non running people are funny like that. :o)

You won in your mom's eyes and that is all that matters. Way to go.

Good luck on Peak Week! So exciting. This will be your first right? We will both join "the club" soon.

My mom thinks running is unhealthy and if she just ignores my running comments I will stop. So much for parental support. Love your bike and storage set up. Hey, your helmet matches your bike. Sweet!

Melanie - I tagged you!!! Check out my blog & play along if you want! :)

Isn't it awesome how moms just assume their child would win at anything they do?

The m-m-marathon is going to be great! Can't wait to see more smiling race pics!!

That's a Classic mom moment, hey! Hilarious, they are.

Hope you're doing well!

Hi Melanie

It is the funniest thing when people who don't run are exposed to us runners. My nephew (who is 19) always asks me what I am going to win. He could never imagine running 26.2 miles unless there was some sort of tangible reward. There is of course the medal, but we (or I) run because we can. The accomplishment is the thing.

Best of luck with your training and Mississauga is coming up fast.

your mom is funny :) of course you won!

hope the marathon training is going well. this may work out well 'cause you don't have to spend 16 weeks (or however long) dwelling about it.

Your Mom sounds as though she just doesn't want to hear another thing about running! LOL...good luck with your marathon training, you are soooo ready!

p.s. Love your bike!

I'm completely entertained by all the "nice rack" comments...way to get a compliment girlfriend!

Seriously though, at least your mom thinks you COULD win a race. Mine keeps telling me that I should give up running and start walking because it'd be better for me...I LOVE my mom, but she so. doesn't. get. it. I L

lol when i picked up my dogs from "camp" after my first marathon i was still wearing my medal (of course) and the girl asked me if i won... i had to laugh :)

Hi Melanie - totally off topic, but I was wondering if you could contact me via email regarding use of the Onlineshoes.com gift certificate. I am having some issues since I am Canadian and I was curious how you handled it. If you could email me at ndscott[at]telus.net maybe I could ask you a few questions?

Thanks!

Awww, nice mom story. She was probably telling all her friends you won the race until you set her straight!
