- mapmyrun.com to plan my routes
- eating to fuel my runs
- wearing my running clothes
- yes, even washing my running clothes!
- waking up at 6:30 on a Sunday morning to meet my running group
- hearing Garmin's alert at each km
- fighting with my ipod and nike+ occasionally
- filling up my fuel belt bottles
- counting down days to a race
- sucking back a gel... when I had the first one, I never thought I'd have another.
- post run stretching
- lacing up my running shoes
- stopping at a street light, losing my pace and focus but catching my breath
- giving Terron a post-run sweaty hug... yes, gross, but sorta became a game/ritual
- feeling the blood flow instead of the ass grow
- working towards the goals I had set for myself
- waking up feeling I had energy
- checking the weather reports with more interest than normal to plan my runs
- not being 100% part of my running group. Trust me when I tell you they're the best, and have always made me feel "welcome" -- even while not running, I still join them for coffee after a run... but I don't feel the same.
- the burn in my legs and lungs
- feeling energized after a run
- playing mental games with myself to will me up a tough hill
- jumping out of my skin as I run by a barking dog
- feeling like I do something
- the sun shining, birds singing, wind blowing while I'm moving
- <---------- not having my Nike+ mini trash talk me
- not a pity party.... just sayin'
Went back to the doc tonight, will save that for another post since I won't likely have much in the way of running or anything newsworthy to post for a while...
Had a fun lunch with the 'girls today'; great to see you Marlene! She's starting her 5 in 5 on Sunday, stop by to wish her well! Also good luck to Carlee running her first marathon, Marci and Ted, go kick some @$$! I'm sure I've forgotten some others racing this weekend, and I apologize, but good luck!
(I'm behind in blog posts and mind is a little distracted, but I will catch up.)

Don't worry kid! You will get back out there. Allow your body to heal so u can be stronger in the end.
Cindie
feeling the blood flow instead of the ass grow...hahahaha! I'm sorry, mend quickly. I'm certain your running group misses you too.
Great list, you've hit everyone of my "moments", thanks for putting it into words.
We'll be okay, hang tough!!! ; )
lol about your nike+. i did notice the other day it was trash talking you, not cool! hang in there mel, focus on getting yourself healthy again just like you focused on getting in shape, building your miles, and running long races. maybe take this time to do other things you enjoy that running has kind of overtaken?
Aaahhhh - sorry, Mel! Things we take forgranted...
Hang in there - you'll be enjoying those moments again soon enough :)
like you told me..........this break will only make you hungrier for the next one! I took that to heart and it helped. You know I 'definitely' know what you're going through these days and the first few days are the worst. I am now kicking a$$ on my bike instead!
Hang in there. Hope you get some answers and start feeling better real soon. Thinking of you.
Mel, you will be back before you know it. Hang in there!
I really feel for you. I remember missing all of those things when I was out with my shoulder. it just plain sucks.
I hope you got at least a little bit of good news at the doc.
Thanks for the shout-out, and for coming at lunch! It's nice to catch up in person now and then.
Love the "feeling my blood flow instead of my ass grow." Hang in there! I hope you get some good news and are able to get back out there soon.
Awww - you'll be back there in no time. Great list.
I feel for you and am sending lots of healing thoughts your way. Absence only makes the heart grow fonder.
AMAZING the things you miss when something is taken away from you. When I was injured in college I was on the sideline riding a stationary bike while my teammates ran lines....I actually missed running lines. The pain somehow dissappears when it is your choice to be there... Thanks for the reminder.. Being injured is not fun...but in time you will make it back and have all those things...
I totally understand. I went through this when i was sidelined with my knee problems.
Maybe you can find something new to take up for a while?
Aw, I'm so sorry. I feel terrible. Hang in there.
im with missy. that was a good one. ass grow. geez.
good bullets. you'll feel better soon.
Oh, Mel! I hope you are able to get back quicker than you think. Or, maybe you can find something invigorating to fill the void :-)
Thanks for the shout out Mel! I can only imagine how frustrated you
must feel... hang in there! Have a great weekend.
can you be like me when I was down and out, sitting on a stability ball doing arm weights? Maybe some yoga? Maybe just arm circles? I dunno I got very creative just to move!!
Cheer up, sistre! You'll enjoy them even more next time around after missing out on them for a time!
One thing you'll never miss is people (like me) who aren't going through what you are telling you to cheer up because it's not so bad! Am I right?
It's okay to feel bad about it. But don't let it become what you're about. You deserve better from yourself, sistre!
Mel, I know you will be back...and will be stronger! Hang in there. I love this post...and the feeling of longing...it mirrors so much of what goes through runners' heads!
ohh girlie my heart just hurts for you :( i know this is so hard... but we all know you will be back as soon as you can!! hang in there and know we are all sending lots of good healing vibes your way!
Aww, I'm sorry you're missing running so much. I'll echo what some of the other posters said and say maybe use this time to do something you wouldn't have had time for before? Like yoga? Swimming? Learning to knit? Well, the knitting isn't really moving, but it might be relaxing. :)
When you miss all those things, you know that you've found an activity that you are really passionate about and that is a wonderful thing. You're a runner and you'll be back. Healing is the most important thing right now. Hang in there! You'll be back out there soon and there will be a lot more adventures to come.
I can sooooo very much relate. I found throwing stuff sort of helped, although it isn't running. My dog enjoyed playing fetch, so it all worked out. Darts worked, too. What I really wanted to throw was all my dishes, but I really needed those.
Take care. You will be back.
Try to think of recovery as part of your training. That helped me a bit.
OK,
When the store is out of Phish Food B&J's ice cream, I go for a different one. So you can't use the legs right now, do something else that you love and haven't done in a while. Gardening is fun, drive by the fire-house while they're washing the trucks- that's fun too, organize your cookie recipies- (when you aren't in a frenzied holiday rush). Pull out cloths for charity, or maybe even volunteer at a race.
Hang in there sweets. :)
:( Funny how this becomes such a part of our lives...
