not in my head, not in my bones

back from the sports injury clinic, and I'm happy to report that I'm not crazy, and don't appear to have a repeat performance of a stress fracture. As I mentioned in my previous post, I got an appointment to see another doctor in the same clinic -- I was really nervous. What if this guy doesn't get it? What if he's one of those that think running is bad for you? for your joints? I got a little emotional in my car ride there; what if he tells me not to run the marathon? How will I handle that?

Remember, I already told you I wasn't crazy lol.

So in comes the doc, he's reviewing my file, and already knows that I have calf pain, and tells me that he also practices ART and Graston, (I made sure at the time of booking the appointment that I'd get someone with similar treatment methods) both of which I've already done. Explained what I've been feeling, remind of him my history of stress fractures, acknowledge that I am indeed in taper madness, and with that he starts his poking, prodding, has me stand on my tippy-toes, etc.

Like music to my ears, he said that he really didn't think it was bone, and there is some definite muscular tightness, so it's also not just in my head. Some ART, then Graston with the metal rod, the IFC suction cups, which he gave me a overly generous amount of stimulation.  I had to have him turn it down as it was intolerable, seriously, it hurt.  Never would I thought that I'd voluntarily go for and pay for this much fun.

The good news? It doesn't hurt now where it hurt before... maybe masked by the tenderness of a different muscle now tight because of the IFC.  As you've all said, my training is done.

He said that I'm ok to keep the running light and easy between now and then, and if at any point I feel too much pain, to stop, and leave whatever I have left for marathon day. I liked that. So, with that, I have a sense of relief.  Now all I have to do is look forward to next weekend :)

Just got a text from my regular sports doc, his wife just had a baby girl 40 minutes ago...!

Good luck to all those racing this weekend!!

Gotta love when the therapy causes new pain that gets rid of why you went in there in the first place!
