time to turn my words into action, and move forward. No, not move forward as in lacing up my shoes and going out for a run -- that will happen, but only when healed.
I've read and been inspired by your swimming workouts, and maybe secretly I wanna have big guns like Missy.
I know that I've commented on various blog posts that I need to get back into the pool, well, tonight I did just that. I put on a bathing suit (we won't be talking about that part any further) :/ and forced myself out of the door.

Something I learned very quickly... pool change room floors are slippery. Pool change room floors while on crutches is a form of cross-training.
Felt the site of the supposed stress fracture at times while in the water, and some tightness as I was kicking on the side of the calf, just above the ankle on the outside and slightly towards the back. Leg is slightly achy now, but I'm icing, elevating, have stretched, used the Stick, have the foam roller out, which I'll use after I'm done this post.
I also did the TriPower strength assessment today, methinks I have a lot of work to do, but I can't wait!
Next up, an MRI and another bone scan... yep, I'll be radioactive once again. I went to the Sports MD today, he's not 100% convinced it's bone, although it's still probable. Another possibility is that it may be the thin layer of muscle over the bone, a tendon or a ligament. So hopefully we can stop speculating soon, treating it as such, and will know for sure... just keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get an MRI appointment before I'm fully healed! Ugh. Also, given the tightness of the calf muscle and the feeling of something pinched, and like it's going to give out, he wants to rule out any tears, since it's been almost 3 weeks and how I'm feeling.
Good luck to all those racing this weekend... I should be doing a HM on Sunday, but I'll be thinking and virtually cheering you all on instead.

I sorta have this picture of you swimming with one foot flexed... ((smiles))
That being said, I went swimming one day last week with DramaGirl, and it was the best workout EVAH. And I want guns like Missy's as well!!
Three weeks is a freekin' long time to not know what is wrong...I'm just sayin'
Yay! Good for you, girl! You got out there...most people would have just wallowed.
Good luck! Hope it's nothing major and you recover soon and start running.
It sounds like a good idea to find out for certain what is going on with you.
Good job for getting out to the pool, making it into the pool without further injuries due to slipping, and for getting a workout done!!
Thanks for your well-wishes for Sunday's race. I'll dedicate the first mile to you! That's the one I will still feel well enough to remember to dedicate to you. The rest will probably be a blur. ;P
Good idea to hit the pool, and I want those guns too!
Good job getting in the pool, Mel! If only they had an ipod for the pool, hey?
Hahahaha, thanks for the shout out Mel. I have to pass the tickets to the GUN SHOW over to you, though. Me guns is shrinking now that I'm not doing 20K/week! I know you can keep up our killer rep;)
I understand your disappointment but I had to do the same earlier this year. You WILL find that you'll get better at some things you may currently be struggling at. AND the run comes back quickly, promise!
I agree with Alice in that I see you swimming with one foot flexed as well.
I think you'll really enjoy swimming as cross training and your body will like it too. I know it's the best thing I did for myself in th summer...somehow I seemed to have let it go in teh winter...
You have done the hard part (other than walking with crutches on the slick floor)--you got out the door. Good luck Radioactive Girl and I hope they get it figured out!!!
woo hoo! way to get in the pool! i love the exhausted feeling after a swim workout, but i'm usually too chicken to actually go for one :)
i really hope the docs figure out what it actually is soon! seems like this is starting to drag on with all the uncertainty. :( they need to pinpoint it and start treating it!!
Well we are both radioactive and with a stress fracture. Good luck and heal soon. What about to run shoulder to shoulder the "rebirth race"?
yay for getting into the pool
maybe consider getting a pull bouy - you can put it between your legs and just use your arms - if kicking is problematic right now.
I think the pull bouy idea is a great one! It also helps a lot with form, so its a two-fer! Good for you finding something else to do for now and for trying to nail down exactly what's up.
Good job getting into the pool!
Hope all goes well with the bone scan.
Good on you for picking up the slack right away sistre! Swim, swim, swim.
And good luck with the MRI, bone scan and any other prodding they have planned for you. Get a diagnosis and get this thing taken care of already.
Yeah, IO Missy's guns are intimidating, aren't they? I secretly think she could take me in a fair one and that thought is kinda HAWT!1!
taking action in some way is always the best medicine for me! hope you hear something final soon, so you can formalize how you are going to be back to our little running world
Good job getting in the pool! Hopefully that's something you can do without much discomfort during this healing process.
Good luck with the MRI and bone scan. Having some answers will be good. And now we'll always be able to spot you with your radioactive glow. :)
Having an outlet for your stress is the best medecine. I spent HOURS in the pool and on a stationary bike after my ACL surgery in college. HATED IT!! But needed some way to feel like I was accomplishing something. And I 100% agree, crutches and pool floors do not mix. Either do crutches and ice on an uneven sidewalk, I sware I have NO GRACE!!
awesome job getting in the pool! I'm so inspired by all of you people who swim, it never was a particular skill of mine.
I hope the bone scan/mri shows something conclusive, it's so irritating when you know something's wrong and they can't figure out what it is. Hope things work out for you!
i think you should put up your numbers from the tri power assessments. i have to do my next assessment on wednesday, and i always post the numbers. i could only do 10 pushups the first time, there's nothing wrong with a low starting point, because that's all it is. if there's room to grow, it will make next month's numbers look that much better.
have a great weekend mel! i still havne't found you on fb? whaddup?
Love the comment of pool changing room floors with a crutch being cross-training! Too funny! Totally paints a pic in my head.
Good luck with all the tests
Keep a swimmin'!
Best to get everything figured out exactly, so that the healing process can begin and go properly. I know it sucks, but that's probably the right thing to do (as I pontificate while not going to the Dr myself..)
Forgive me for being a newbie, but what all is in the TriPower assessment?
Swimming is such a great idea. I hope you can continue this as cross training and it will aid your recovery. Just be careful with the slippery floors. :)
Watch out for those floors! Swimming is going to be great for you!
I'm all for second opinions... I hope the news is good.
Take care with the crutches as well!
You remind me that I need to get back into a pool. We all want guns like Missy! LOL.
Best wishes with the MRI and bone scan. I'm glad to hear someone's doctor is on the ball!
I'm just now catching up on your blog, so sorry to hear that it is a stress fracture. Great job on getting in the pool!
Way to be proactive Mel...wished we lived closer, I need your positive energy!
Double cross-training between the swimming & navigating slippery floors on crutches - WOOT!!
Your posts have been inspirational - I need to stop farting around & get in the pool!
