googled

Terron is in the 5th grade, and has one week left of school. He's wrapping up the year, and has one last little project. He described it to me briefly yesterday, saying he'd need a picture of me, and that was the end of that conversation.

Today, he came home from school, and said he found a picture of me with the pink toque and sunglasses (which was my profile pic during the winter). When asked how and where he found it, he replied, "I googled you mom".

WTF?? Did I just leap ahead 10 years, my kid googled me! Thankfully I have nothing to hide, nothing I'm ashamed of, and even if I do, I certainly wouldn't put it out there to be found on the internet. LOL I cannot believe my 10 year old son googled me. Parents be warned :) **edit, added pic after D10's comment)

I hit the gym today for an H2O massage, then the elliptical on level 1, my first weight-bearing exercise since the marathon -- smooth sailing, kinda. I felt great, no pain at all on the front of my leg which was the suspected stress fracture, and more worrisome to me. The calf also felt fine, but I could feel it start to tighten up about 17 minutes in. I had only planned to do 20 minutes anyway to start out... feel good no real sharp pains. When it started to tighten, I started going backwards, and was back to no pain, no tightness. The doc did mention to me that there is scar tissue from damage done, so I will likely feel slight "discomfort" that will eventually go away... but of course I'm hyper-sensitive to anything that feels out of the ordinary.

One key thing that my sports doc recommended to me this time is no back to back running days when I finally start running again, so I will do the same with the elliptical. With a planned short ride on Saturday and a longer one on Sunday, I won't likely get on the elliptical again until Monday, and tomorrow will hopefully be a swim after work. If the tightness continues, obviously I won't be going back to running as quickly as hoped, but am still staying positive since I have other activities keeping me busy, and want to be fully healed before I lace up the shoes.

good luck to anyone racing this weekend!!

At least he found something when he googled you. If I googled my mom, I bet nothing would come up. It is weird though, to think about it.

That's the great thing about tri, virtually NO back to back running days!

The internet is a scary place...someone from my past googled me and started sending emails....yikes.

thanks for the reminder about no back to back running, I've changed my mind now about running this morning and I'll just do some yoga instead!

Kids are more tech savvy than parents. Who had to program the VCR when you were younger? It wasn't mom or dad.

Too funny about your son! So lets see the picture. Have a wonderful weekend.

it's scary the amount of personal information that can be found on the internet.

hey i google myself sometimes, and other people. especially to look up race results, lol.

glad the elliptical went well!! so glad you are able to start exercising upright again :) sounds smart to only do it every-other-day - i would rather run 3-4 days a week than 0!

Oh my goodness, that's HILARIOUS that he googled you - and actually found a photo!

Glad to hear you were able to complete an elliptical workout. I hope it feels better and better!

Enjoy the bike rides this weekend!

I'm glad your claf is doing better. I don't do back to back running days either. but you have other things to keep you busy and fit!

Very funny! Wonder what else he can find...

Oy! I haven't had the guts to google myself. With my luck, there'd be a big pic of my @$$ with post-its on it ;)

Jared googles my bike routes for me throughout the state-he loves that nerdy crap and I get a route of it without having to figure out all the technical stuff!

Funny how times change . . . we never could have googled our parents when we were that age - no such thing!

My maiden name Googled is also the name of a porn star, I kid you not!! So I am VERY glad to have a new surname. GEEEZZZ!

Good work on the weight bearing, you are making wonderful progress.

My MARRIED name is a porn star when googled!!! Srsly! Sooo funny! And yeah...I hope my kids don't google me and find all of that nonsense! LOL!

BTW, I love the new pic at the heading of your blog. :)

Stick with it mel. Plenty of recovery time is a good thing. That what I keep telling myself since I haven't logged a single step since the marathon.

raulgonemobile said...

Way to go on the recovery.. You're making great progress.

Yeah, I try to limit what goes out on the web about me.. that's one reason why I try to keep anonymity with my blog and such like that.. such a fine line to walk.

If your kid Googles you and he gets no relevant hits back, do you really exist, Sistre?

Did I just BLOW YOUR MIND?

X-Country2 said...

That's the downside of having such a smart kid. You have no one to blame by yourself. :o)

Oh, my goodness...one more thing to worry about when it comes to having kids. :) That's so funny. I'm glad the elliptical went well-- I think just getting that movement and circulation should help heal the scar tissue, right? Well, I hope so! Have a fantastic weekend.

I always giggle when I write/read about someone googling him/herself...or even someone else for that matter. It just sounds funny.

Yeah, no back to back running days for me either. I'm glad it's summer so I can get into the habit of doing other stuff with the running. I think it'd be harder for me to get into biking or swimming in the winter.

That is hilarious that he googled you and that he found a pic to use. Funny stuff.

So great to hear "no pain"!! Yippeee!!!!

I struggle if I do back-to-back running days. My knees are not happy when I do.

that's too funny! when I have kids I wonder what mine will find???

glad to hear no pain on the elliptical! Have a fantastic weekend!

Hello Mel!

Just catching up after a blogger hiatus... I think the goggling people is generational... I personally google people on regular basis LOL I also google my name ;-) Need to know what's up there you know!!

I'm glad to see you're back on the elliptical and pain free. It's important to do baby steps. I have also avoided back to back running days for months. This week-end is the first time I try it... so knocking on wood!!

I like the new blog look! Triathlons eh? They are addictive ;-)

"Googled"...too funny! Same here- I don't post anything on the www that I don't want anybody to read. Looks like your road to recovery is going well. :-)

Beth said...

Very cute that he googled you. Good idea about avoiding back to back running days. There are so many other activities to fit in anyway!

Cyndi said...

Too funny! My daughter googled me too...it taught me to google myself at least once a month just to see what pops up!

I never run back to back days. I've often wanted to, but I don't. OF course, I am in the 40+ category and we old folk need extra recovery time ha ha.

That's so cute! Kids are crazy these days with the internet. My 10 year old nephew can teach me things!

MCM Mama said...

My seven year old is convinced you can find anything on the internet (which isn't so different from some of the lawyers I used to do research for).

Hope the healing continues at a nice pace!

I like the new look. Good to see your leg is doing better.

Funny about your son googling you. I guess that's the thing people do nowadays, even kids ...

Glad to hear you are managing your leg situation well. Like the new blog look too!

We use the internet so much, and don't even think twice about it...but it does sounds scary how much info you could pull up on Google, doesn't it?

Sounds like you are being cautious during your recovery...that's great. Good luck and wish you a speedy recovery, Mel!

Love the new blog look - and that you're going to do a tri! It's great to get the chance to catch up and see how much healing progress you've made. And finally - go Terron! What a wake up call to be googled by your son. Fun, but wow!
