progress is progress

Thursday night, I went for my first swim... in a long time.  750 meters, a bit of pain with the kicking, and tight calf muscles afterwards, iced and stretched, next day no problem.

Saturday night, put my bike up on the trainer, and spun for an easy 20 minutes, slight pulling in my left leg where the 'supposed stress fractures' are.

Last night, 1250 meters in the pool... no pain.

This morning, easy 25 minute spin on the bike, added some resistance... no pain.

Remember my flamingo post??  Well, my left foot finally dangles!

Starting to be able to take a few steps without the crutches, and am using them less... will continue yet for a few days though since I finally feel like I'm recovering... don't want to go backwards again.

I also started the TriPower workouts today (the first of the month, on a monday, perfect day to start!), and less pain in my calf with the foam roller. Carolina John suggested last week that I should post my beginning numbers, and given the power of looking back at previous posts, as I discussed in my last post, here are the results from my assessment.

Push-ups 60 sec max rep = 27 (i did girl ones as it hurt my leg to be up on my toes.)
Wall Sit (to exhaustion) = 1m 07s
Flex-Arm hang (to exhaustion) = didn't do this one...
Side Plank (to exhaustion) right side = 31s left side = to painful for left leg to attempt
Side Plank bent knee (to exhaustion) right side = oops, didn't do this one, but sure I wouldn't have been able to do the left side again.
Prone Plank = 52 seconds
Extensor Chain = 1m 28s
Core Strength = 30-45 (about 75%)

So as you can see, I'm surviving without running, finding lots of things to keep me busy. :)

oooooo!!! First!!!

Yay!! You get it girl!! Laps are fun, aren't they?

I was walking (yes, walking) at the beach, and I saw this girl running, I think she thought something was chasing her and it was just her ponytail... silly girl.

Glad your foot is dangling.

Sounds good; looks like a nice solid base for training too!

Confirms it. TriPower not for me.

The assessment itself would make me give up!

WTG, sistre!

See, you're making progress and it hasn't even been that long!

Now maybe you'll be able to stave off the insanity, the most disturbing indication of which is you're listening to suggestions from Carolina Cletus.

Step back from the precipice, sistre!

Yay for no pain! Wow...1250 meters...I tried to swim about 200 a week ago and was EXHAUSTED!!! How can I run a 1/2 marathon, ride a bike, and be such a wimpy swimmer?

Glaven needs a good meat punch. I bet HE couldn't do a wall sit for over a minute. and 27 pushups is nice, girlie or not.

Hey Mel, I saw your comment on Marci's blog about finding a cycling group. You can check out all of the affiliated clubs with the Ontario Cycling Organisation: http://www.ontariocycling.org/index.php.

Another option would be to find a triathlon team/coach that you could join for group rides:
http://www.triathlonontario.com/hm/inside.php?id=54

You can check through and see who would be beginner friendly. Just a thought! Having people to ride with really makes biking a much better experience, especially when they know the great places to ride.
