Putting it all together

Speed. Challenge. Excitement. Pushing my limits. I'm so happy I've crossed over into this triathlon clinic and training!

At yesterday's clinic I opted not to run with the group, since back to back running days will be a big no-no for me at least for a while. Knowing we'd be going riding today, I preferred to follow today's group ride with my run to get a brick done, getting the legs to run after getting off the bike is interesting, and I need to get more used to it since I've only recently started running again!

Truth be told, my legs were also a bit sore, and my calf pretty tight, having toured downtown on foot Thursday (and stupidly I wore sandals... so many blisters now!!), and then Niagara Falls on Friday with Damian while he was here. (edit: Damian and I snapped a quick pic just before saying the dreaded goodbyes.)

Arrived at the store for this morning's ride, with Jay! He decided to tag along to get an idea of what the training was like, so it was pretty cool having him there. There would be 2 different distances, 10k or 25k, both very hilly. The Try-a-Tri I'm registered for is a 10k ride, but opted to do the 25k hilly ride. This was definitely my best ride yet, I felt so alive, so strong, fast and free! I got goosebumps a few points during the ride... the feeling was that powerful. At our turn around point, I had closed the gap between me and the fast kids... 4 men that had been leading the group. For the entire ride home, we took turns leading the group... me included!! Did I mention I had a great ride? Back at the store, ran to the car to get my running shoes, and did a short 1k run. About 1/2 way done, Jay was coming in on his bike, and accompanied me back to the store, he did awesome, but not sure he'll be rushing back! haha.

While we were enjoying our coffee post-ride/run, we were all discussing how neat it was to see the training of all three disciplines coming together. Once home, I had just enough time to grab a quick bite to eat; perfectly timed to hit the pool for lane swimming. 1450 meters done, and now I'm feeling the tiredness starting to set in! Nap time :)

Having this clinic sounds like a real help...I wish they had something like that here. They probably do and I just don't know about it! I do like working alone, then some days I think how nice it would be to have others a long. Nice job on all your training!

Sounds like you had a great day. You almost ... almost ... make the tri experience sound appealing. :-)

Happy to hear you had such a great day! Catching up to the fast kids and then running a paceline with them is fantastic.
You got the goosebumps?! It won't be long until you start dreaming about riding as the goosebumps are the start of the cycling high.

I am so happy for you! And Jay too? That rocks. Sounds like this clinic is just what you needed. I'm very glad...I just love it and I think if more people just gave it a try, they'd find out how fun it is too!

That is great Mel, with those distances you should consider the sprint distance instead of the try a tri, I bet you would rock it. Where is your clinic based out of?

I love it Mel - you're set to do a 10km and opt for the 25k hilly route? You're the bomb! Well done! Is that Damien in the pick? He looks sooooo Aussie!

You are certainly going to be well prepared for your tri. I think it is great that this clinic so nicely fits in to your schedule. You are doing an amazing job.

My legs felt like i was running on fire hydrants the first time i tried running off of the bike. you get used to it though, and now it doesn't bother me. still, for those first few hundred meters your legs feel like tree stumps. it's funny.

Are you going to tell Jay the TRUTH about you and Damian, then? I.e., that you DID IT WITH HIM!1!

It's obvious from that picture!

STOP LYING ABOUT IT!1!

Uh ... good job on the other stuff, sistre!

That is some hardcore training. You are training harder for your try a tri than I am for my sprint tri :) Keep up the good work!
