I need to get back on!

Last week I was working extra long hours, with a long commute, I barely got any workouts in. Friday I swam, easy ride Saturday morning in anticipation for the triathlon the following day, which of course, never happened with the death of Terron's dad. Everything since I got the phone call on Saturday evening is a blur... but even then I would never have predicted the outcome.

While a run or a long bike ride would have been a way to change focus for a short time, I haven't had the energy. I'm tired, emotional, and Terron has needed me more than I've needed to escape.

But tomorrow I will be able to make up some of the lost distance this month, I'm doing the Tour de Greenbelt 100k ride, which will be my first time riding that distance!

This is one of the most scenic routes on the Tour de Greenbelt and also one of the more challenging. Located in the Niagara Escarpment, this naturally hilly route is not one to miss. Surrounded by several wineries and riding through the majestic Jordan Valley into the Jordan Station, this ride has a Tour de France feel. Mid-way through the ride is a designated rest stop at the Ridge Point Winery, an Ontario wine vineyard, and a great place to take a break and take in the natural beauty of the Niagara Escarpment, a diverse environment of forests, farms, cliffs, streams, rolling hills and waterfalls. It contains more than 300 bird species, over 50 species of mammals, over 30 types of reptiles and amphibians, and 90 species of fish.

I signed up for this one on this particular date because Sept 12th signifies a pretty important anniversary (sort of the go big or go home mentality lol). Tomorrow marks 8 years since my brain surgery (yes, my surgery was the day after 9/11) to remove my right temporal lobe turned scar tissue, and subsequently, my last seizure! I remember counting in days, then months. Incredible to now be counting in years, having my independence back, driving, living life and doing all the things I once took for granted. This picture was the morning after surgery, when I realized I still had hair! I was so stoked, as I had been too scared to ask my doctor beforehand.

Good luck to Marci doing her first Half IM this weekend, Diana doing her Sprint Tri, and Happy Birthday Ted and Penny! :)

Whoa! Big anniversary for you. So glad to see how well you are doing and how far you have come.

Good luck tomorrow and send my sympathies to Terron. My dad passed in 2007 and while it gets a bit easier there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him.

It will feel wonderful to be out on the bike. It will do your mind and body good. You've had so much going on in your life, my heart goes out to you and Terron.

Sometimes, even if it feels useless while you are sad and feeling numb, a routine is a good way to get on and continue with life.

Keep it up, you are strong physically and emotionally. Focus on providing support to Terron and doing what brings you inner peace.

You celebrated that anniversary well!

There will be plenty of other Tri's in your future! We should pick a Tri in between our locations and race together sometime.

Happy Anniversary !!! It is a blessing to me in a way that your anniversary falls on my birthday. Hmmm.. maybe it is meant to be and it is a sign of hope that the same will go for my daughter who has epilepsy.
