weekend mission

My mission this weekend is simple... I hope. Look. Search. Find. Rediscover.

Post-race blues? Possibly. Nike Women's Half Marathon was been in the works since March 2008 (because we didn't get selected on our first try), and just like that it's done.

I came home to issues that are difficult but that need to be worked through, draining me emotionally.

Fall is my favorite season, I love the changing of the leaves, the crunch as I run over the ones that have already fallen to the ground. But. I'm missing triathlon season, open water swims, longer daylight hours, meeting up with my tri-friends for group rides.

The time difference between San Francisco and home is only 3 hours... but since coming home, I've been exhausted! Trouble sleeping, even harder time waking up. I'm tired all day long. This morning, in fact, I was so tired, I forgot to make my morning cup of coffee! It wasn't until about 11am that I realized it! Not sure how I didn't have a pounding headache!

I'm only running 3x/week... typically Wed, Fri, Sun. I met with my group on both Sunday and Wednesday for short runs, just.could.not.get.myself.together.today. I skipped my run, not bothered by it at all. I won't be running tomorrow, as I've already committed to running with my group Sunday morning and still not doing back to back days (as recommended by my ART/chiropractor).

This is so unlike me.

I think I know where I'm going to start... the first place I'll look. The gym. I bet that bugger is hiding out in there. I cheated on the gym when I started triathlon training. Just not enough hours in a day working full time, being a single mom, finding time for swimming, cycling, running AND going to the gym. Something had to give.

I now have a location within minutes. No car necessary which will be perfect on those snowy, stormy mornings when getting out for a run outside aren't ideal or possible. I can walk across the street to the safety of a treadmill.

I think I just need to start getting back into the weight training, get back to routine and following a training plan. A base building triathlon plan that'll take me through the winter.

If you have seen my mojo, or know of any other places it may be hiding, please let me know.

I'm sooo behind in blogs, I think the above explains it all. Sorry. I will catch up. Good luck with all those racing NYC Marathon (and all other races) on Sunday! Go time!

is your race seaon over? take some time to recovery and relax. its been a long hard, rewarding season. goto the gym and do some classes you wanted to do, but didnt have time to do. have some fun and then get back into the s/b/r flow of things.

I find the best way to get over that post race depression is to find another big race and register!!! Works for me :) Hope you get some rest and feel better soon!

You will shake out those post race blues in no time.

i'm having a similar problem. :-(

let's find that mojo!

Your mojo will come back - in the meantime, there's nothing wrong with enjoying some aimless lazy recovery days. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves for most of the year!

Don't worry about motivation right now...it will come in due time. Enjoy the down time. Going to the gym is a great idea. Listening to music and blogging are good too! I usually cut way back after my big events!

this totally happens. just roll with it. doing something positive and feeling good about it will do wonders, even if it is just getting a great night sleep (this is seriously one of the most important things to me).

happy halloween!

Sometimes, just sometimes even a mojo needs to take a break. You've had a LOT going on Mel, be gentle to yourself and your mojo, when you're both ready, you'll be back...take some time and go easy...you'll be back and busting ass in no time...

Sounds like your mojo is making you take the break that you so desparately need. Listen to yourself...relax, unwind, and put no pressure on yourself right now. Mojo will come back when he's ready!!

I think mojo is a really tough thing for this time of year. Most of us don't have any big races looming on the horizon (unless you can do Disney or Arizona), so what do you do when you aren't really training for anything?

I've been having the same issues, but my goal for this winter is to mix things up a bit. I'm going to try some XC races and hopefully some snow shoeing later this winter.

I totally feel the same way. I am just taking it easy and resting. I want to be healthy next year, so I don't think pushing myself will help now. Happy relaxing and enjoying the fall.

Hmmm- I think your mojo might be hanging out wiht mine :) Let me know if you find them!
Seriously, I agree with others that this time of year is tough. I love fall, but let's be realistic; in the Northeast, it makes weekday workouts very difficult. And, it means winter is just around the corner.

must be the post-race blahs. I have them too! good luck finding your mojo and if you see mine hanging around send it back to me!

I've been in a slump with exercise too. I think I want to do it all, therefore, I don't start anything.
You just miss California and all its beauty. And you probably really miss Boomer. ;)

We all go through times when our mojo skipped town for a bit. Sometimes, we need a little down time. Don't worry. It will be back.

It's back to basics and you're right, the gym is the place to start.

Lori-Ann Muenzer always holed up in the gym when she had setbacks and was on the road back...

Look where that got her.

It's hard after a big event is over. Wish you were closer, I'm looking for gym buddies since I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather.

Getting back to the gym seems to have helped me find my mojo; hope it does the same for you!

Don't worry, your mojo will find you. You just got done with a race, so its natural to feel a little lost. Plus, the change of seasons means a change in routine. Rest up and hit the gym. You'll feel like yourself again soon!

Your mojo will find you. Just give yourself a break for a bit.

I am hoping this doesn't happen to me after my first half that's in a few weeks. I'm thinking about base plans, too, so I'll be interested in hearing about any one you find. :)

You'll find it again, just work through the issues like they're a work out and you'll bounce back

I've rediscovered the gym as well and it is getting me through until our next run clinic starts.
Chin up...
I hate the 3 hr time difference - it is a killer.

Hey Mel... you have been through a lot this year. I know its hard when the racing season is winding down. We all need to remind ourselves that we need to take a deep breath. November and December are typically a big down time. Holidays are approaching so this will be our down time before we start get busy for 2010. Your mojo will come back naturally when you are ready. Hang in there Mel!

I am just getting back in the swing of things myself, just have to look yourself in the mirror and think about what your running for, it works every time :)

Get back out there and enjoy fall!

belated thanks for the good luck! :)

i hope you had a good weekend and successful mojo-searching. i definitely get a bit 'out of the mood' to read/comment on everyone's awesome workouts when i'm in the doldrums. you've done a lot this year - with running, tri's, and life in general. don't be too hard on yourself if you take a few weeks easy! that being said, i know it's hard to "just take it easy" when the mojo is mia but you want so badly to be motivated. good luck and hang in there :)
