we got an idea, were assigned our mission, presents purchased, they'll be delivered on Monday.
Last year, our running group had a Christmas get together, a feast fit for a King, delicious desserts to remind us why we run, lots of laughter, and a gift exchange. We planned on repeating this tradition, but a suggestion was made. Take the money that we'd spend on the gift, and made a donation. We thought about a number of charities and groups that could obviously benefit from this gift.
We decided on a local Children's Aid organization. We were assigned a family, a 33 year old single father with a one year old baby girl. We got a short list of suggested items, and with that, the elves hit the mall after their run last night. Our very own Mrs. Claus will be dropping off all the gifts on Monday.
Isn't this what the season is all about? I love being part of a giving group of people!
Make sure you stop by Marlene's blog... she's participating in cans for comments... donating a can of non-perishable food 5 comments she gets... every friday in December! You know what! Count me in! For every 5 comments I get on this post, I'll also donate a can for Terron's karate school's food drive.

First!?!
I love your idea about supporting a local family, good for you guys!!
Hope Terron gets a lot of canned goods for his Karate school food drive, you are so sweet Mel.
This brings back great memories from college where students in our major would donate needed items for families. As an organizer, I got to help wrap them all and make noted to the children from Santa. What a great time of year - and great things you are doing.
Love it, Mel! What a fabulous thing you all did. I love hearing stories like this. :)

HEY! So excited that you're jumping on board with Cans for Comments. Here's one. ;)
I was technically starting in December but after seeing this post, I'll definitely donate for today too! Thanks for the shout-out!!
What a great idea that your running group took on for Xmas. We're having a run-brunch in a couple weeks and I think I'll suggest something like this instead of Secret Santa.
Have a great weekend Mel!!
I think that sounds like a wonderful charity to support. This way you really can connect what you are giving with who is going to be benefiting.
Good luck with the canned food drive!!
Great idea! Our local RR store has a Christmas fun run where everyone brings food bank donations and we collect playing cards throughout our 5km run. Best poker hand at the end wins prizes. it is a blast.
Great idea for a running group and so fun that you all shopped together after a run. Good luck with you canned food drive!
absolutely! That's one of my favorite things about the holidays...the giving spirit!
That is great about the delivery happening Monday.
You're going to be donating a lot of cans girl! :)
I love your running group's giving idea! What an awesome way to get into the Spirit of Christmas. Sounds like fun, too. :)
Get those cans out, I bet you'll be bringing a lot in!
Do they open the cans with a karate move?
;)
what a great idea to donate cans of food!!!! I might do the same thing!! But I might do it for the animals...
WHAT a GREAT idea!!! I tried for almost 2 months to find a place to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day after the Manchester Road Race- (which I also volunteered with about 2 billion other people), but every organization was overwhelmed with volunteers!
So start my own!
....wondering if you'd mind if I plugged this post on my fb.... :)
There's hope for this crazy world yet! Great idea and hope you can carry all the cans!
That's a great idea. This has been such a rough year for many people. I may have to steal it.

I love these kinds of things!! My company does a gift exchange and I talked them in to the same thing last year, I think some were a bit begruding...but those of us who went to the angel tree and bought gifts were overjoyed
Great idea -- glad to participate by adding my comment.
Awesome giving ideas!
Very cool, indeed :)
Sounds like you have a good year getting your goals accomplished. Great idea on the can goods. We did a food drive last weekend. Every little thing makes a difference.
