I started this blog as a way to keep myself accountable and track progress... i was sure the novelty would wear off quickly, but because of the support of awesome bloggers such as you, you and yes, even you, I now have almost two year's worth of history to look back upon. It's certainly been useful when I'm feeling low or lacking motivation.
Below is a list of things that I'd written in the past... a then and now point of view.
- June 14, 2008 - "Not sure that a triathlon would ever be in my future..." - Proud to be wrong on this one!! I completed two this past summer, and can't wait until next season already! I've already put the dates in my training plan spreadsheet for next season's posted races dates, and am waiting for the TriKid's race dates to be posted so that I can figure out both Terron's and my races for next year so that we don't overlap any events! Yep, he's hooked too! My 11 year old!! :)
- April 2, 2008 - "We know Terron, you've told us like a million times..." - There are moments as a mother that will always make you beam ear to ear. I'm often very proud of him, but this was a highlight.
- April 1, 2008 - Rejection, on April Fool's Day... no joke. But in hindsight, getting selected in 2009 for the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco was even better, because I "knew" more bloggers this year... I was lucky enough to meet 4 awesome bloggers while there!
- May 19, 2008 - A reminder to reapply sunscreen on the tops of your feet after getting in the pool while on vacation-- may affect post-vacation race day plans... in my case, it did.
- May 10, 2009 - almost a year later... probably my most honest post ever.... my marathon DNF. I still think back this day, and have trouble placing myself there in that moment.
- January 24, 2009 - with the first sight of snow falling last night, I started going through some of my warmer winter clothes... and thought about my frozen water bottles from last year. Can't say I'm looking forward to those temperatures again, but Mel, don't be scared.... end of March should be warmer ;) lol
- May 21, 2009 - the good and the bad, those are the things I miss when I can't run (or train, since running is now only a part of it...)
- March 2, 2008 - race bling... my first medal when I completed my first half marathon. While the 'first one' is memorable, and can never be replaced, this one (scroll down a ways...) will be hard to beat, and is only taken off for swimming.
As I posted about just a few days ago, I'm taking the winter to work on my 'forward motion'. Taking a bit of a step back to build a solid base over the winter months. Easy, low heart rate, base-building runs, easy spins on the bike, drill and endurance work in the pool following a training plan by Joe Friel. Hopefully next year I'll be able to look back on these days as 'worth it' with accomplishments and lessons learned.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Aw! So fun to look back and see the growth. I've only been following a few months, but its neat to see your highlights-- both good and bad.
Keep up the good work ;)
Isnt it fun to look back and see how far we have come. Congrats!!
Look at all you have done and the wonderful person / mother / runner / triathlete you are...
You always share your adventures with us, thanks!!
what a great looking back post!! i think when i have blogged for 2 years i will like to do an exact day- year later- side by side comparison!!! will be so interesting! thanks for the idea and the thought provoking, what a year can do...
You've come a long way! Looking forward to see what the next year holds for you!
So fun looking back at all you've done!! You've come so far...just wait till you look back next year.
What a fun look at some past posts! It's been quite a ride, hasn't it?

Great post! Can't wait to see what you do in the future.
It is so great to have a record of the journal of our lives. Amazing how things change, and some stay the same which is better.
Hugs to Mel visiting...I am hoping she can find the $$$ to make it to Seattle.
i love love love being able to look back on old blog posts to see the progression. congrats on all you have accomplished so far and cant wait to see what else you have coming up!
What a great idea to look back. I never read my old posts but you inspired me to do just that.
Isn't blogging great? I love being able to look back and remember everything. Even though my running blog is only a few months old, my mommy blog is about six months older than my 17-month-old son. It's so cool to revisit my old self. :) Great post! Love this idea!
You have accomplished so much. You are awesome Mel, don't ever forget that.
So fun looking back! I too never thought I would stick w/ the blogging. It's awesome being able to go back to how it was at that moment in time and see how far you've come.
Wow, that's awesome! What a great way to reflect on all you've accomplished. Congrats!!!
You've come a long way! Congrats girl.
it's always so interesting to me that we can do so much, learn so much and change so much in one year!
Just when we feel we haven't accomplished much, we have our "memories" to go back and read! Best part of the blogging world!
Kudos to everything you've done!
I love looking back on what I was thinking during past training cycles. It's always such a great feeling knowing what was once thought to be impossible has been accomplished :)
It's always kinda fun looking back at old posts - time goes by so quick and now there's so much interesting stuff to read that's since been posted.
Good stuff! It's always a good idea to rebuild that base from time to time.
So cool to look back & see how far you have come. Well done lady! Keep bloggin' and rockin'!
Enjoyed reading all your racing accomplishments, you have come so far and still have so much more to give! Awesome reflection and future plan:)
I love looking back in the archives as well - it's a great way to reflect on accomplishments and see how far you've come, and plan for more to come!
The more I run, the more I am 100% convinced that the mind is always the limiting factor. It is so great how far you've come!
Such changes, huh? I love that you can so easily track things with a bog -- much easier to see your changes and how far you've come. You'd forget certain things if you didn't write about them.
