Breaking the cycle

I tend to be an all-or-nothing-kinda girl. I find something I'm interested in, and want to learn more. I get absorbed, maybe a little consumed. This became quite obvious when I started running, I wanted to run more often, farther, faster, just more! Soon, anything else that I was doing physically took a back seat... I headed out for a run instead.

Blah blah blah, injuries, can't run.

Got the ok to run after incorporating some cycling and swimming, once again, I ran, and not much else.

Blah blah blah, injuries, can't run.

Get the ok to run, except that now I actually enjoyed swimming and cycling, so I started to share my time and love like a parent with more than one child.

It's nice to *think* you've really learned from past mistakes.... but actually seeing the proof is even better **edited to add this information since there were a few questions about it -- pie chart is taken from TrainingPeaks, one of 2 websites that I use to track my workouts, the other one is Daily Mile)!**  Here's to hoping that I've broken the cycle, and will never repeat that mistake again!!

I've been a bad blogger lately... I'm reading, but not commenting much, and I apologize. I will resume more regular comments once I deal with plenty of stuff I've got going on. I just wanted to put that out there because the blogs that I enjoy most are those where the exchange is reciprocal, and I feel bad that I haven't been. I appreciate each and every reader and comment... so I hope you forgive, and can bear with me :)

You've definitely found some balance there. I'm curious, what are you using to track your workouts? Did it give you this nice little pie chart or did you create that on your own?

I'm so impressed! You are one physically balanced woman!

I totally get the being busy and not being able to comment on blogs. I'm there right now, too. :)

Keep up the great work!

I think you help me figure out something. I am like you, I learn something and can very easily get consumed, maybe thats why I do triathlons. I have 3 things to consume my time!!!!!

Very well balanced workouts, very impressed. Do you have a coach or self coached?

I used to not cross train at all but not being able to run really does make you try other things and now I usually do 2-3x a week of stuff other than running. I really think it makes you stronger.

I use WKO/TPC too but don't put in the strength and cross training. Maybe I should since it looks much more impressive.

That's a nice balance-you should never get bored!
I love having more than one thing I really enjoy to do too!
In fact, today's a snowshoeing day for sure with the fresh 10" we got all day yesterday!
Play on!

I love that pie chart! And look at all that strength. It must be truly eye-opening to look at it that way.

Cool pie chart, but the name makes me hungry. Nice balance in your workouts too. Don't worry about being behind commenting on blogs. It happens to all of us, and my blog is just talking about groin injuries. Feel free to skip it! :-)

Not sure what my reason is but I THINK I leave comments BUT I have gotten bad as well. Read more than I comment.

Mental note.... will get better at this :))

Good luck with the "stuff". We'll be here. :o)

I love that pie chart, Mel!! I need to seriously get some sort of program to chart all my runs. I just use a word document and lots of chicken scratch. I have a lot of personal "stuff" going on so I totally understand where you're coming from. Hang in there. I truly believe these things make us stronger in the end!!

Sometimes you dont want to post a comment just for the sake of it all......whtn your ead a magazine there is no desire to write a comment about everything. It is a gen Y thing to comment on everything and text and facebook everything.......not me!

While I agree with you that the exchange of comments is important because the interaction builds relationships, I also think you shouldn't feel guilty when you don't get around to do it. Well thought-through comments with meaning are more important than just a quick thoughtless thrown-in sentence! Take you time and comment when you feel emotionally ready to invest into those relationships. :-)

The chart is really cool. I always log my workouts on BT, but I might check out the sites you mentioned.

Pie chart! Cool!

I'd also like to think I've learned from past mistakes, but sometimes it takes a while to get the point across to my thick skull.

I've been (equally) a bad blogger. ;) I'm trying to make up for it.

I love that you made a pie chart to show us how balanced you have become! Good for you! I aspire to be more like you :)

I am working to move away from the all-or-nothing mindset too. Looks like you've got the balance thing down pat now!
