High five!!

Bullet-style post, just because! :) That's why!
  • down 11.8 pounds from my heaviest, and I need to go buy new jeans... because I can now slide them off, buttoned up! They used to leave me with a bit of a muffin-top! Sad but true.
  • Masters swim has been going very well -- feeling much stronger and more efficient in the water! The triathlon club will be starting in only a few weeks, and a triathlon coach has been hired!
  • With rain forecasted for this weekend, a baby shower tomorrow, and a Breast Cancer fund-raising breakfast Sunday morning, I wasn't sure when I'd fit in my long run... and I didn't want to miss it. So I did it this morning instead, and will opt for a shorter run Sunday afternoon if I can fit it in.
  • Still tracking my calories!! This is by far the longest I've stuck with it, and I think it's making a difference (ironically, increasing calories by about 300-400/day) :)
  • This morning, I ran through the park where the "Just the Two of Us" pictures were taken last weekend. Couldn't help but smile every time I passed one of our photo spots.
  • Once out of the park, I had a major decent, then a pretty big climb. At the bottom of the hill, I crossed paths with an elderly gentleman out for a stroll. He stuck out his hand, so I obliged him with a high-five, gave me quite a boost!
  • I've finally caught up on 286 blogs posts! Ouch!
  • I noticed this morning on my run that there are not nearly enough garbage cans on our city streets, I had to carry an empty gel package for 3.6km before I found one! No wonder there's so much littering!  I also noticed that there was a disgusting amount of spit globs on the pavement in front of the high school. Ewwww.
  • I'm on my first recovery week of the P90X/Insanity Hybrid... the workouts are tough, but I'm loving the more intense cardio of the Insanity series!
  • My neighbor is having some work done in front of her house, so the maintenance dude saw me leave for my run this morning. When I returned, just over 90 minutes later, he said "You're still working out!" So... of course I had to tell him that I just ran 16k! "Are you crazy?" he said, to which I replied "Yes, I've been told..." He said that even with a fire under his ass, and a grizzly bear chasing him, he would never run that far. I used to think that way! :)
  • Calling all triathletes... I need your experience and expertise. What is up with my outer calves BURNING when I do a brick run ONLY. Happens ONLY off the bike, to the point that I need to stop and walk, which still burns -- both legs. Running on its own is fine... no burning, no pain; only off the bike. Happens with both my road and tri bike, I stretch lots, have been doing lots of strength training, including the legs.  I understand that my legs should feel like rubber or whatever for a bit off the bike, but mine don't, they feel like they're on FIRE!! Any thoughts?? Do I just have to keep doing these bricks, and eventually it'll go away??
Finally, good luck to all those racing this weekend, especially those going to Boston! I know you'll make us all proud!!

I'm not jealous of your weight loss, nope, not at all :)

Just kidding. Congrats on that. Awesome job you are doing with ALL your workouts.

Love those moments when someone recognizes how hard you work out. It's kind of validating isn't it?

Happy weekend!

Keeping track of food is always a good choice-hold us accountable for sure and really makes us second guess what we really want to shove in our mouths.
Congrats on the weight loss, that's awesome.
Can't help with the calf pain-I haven't had that to deal with. But I can say that I love doing those bricks!

Congrats on the weight loss

the calf, 2 things popped in my mind.

First your cleat might need to be refitted to your shoe. It may have moved

second is your bike fit, weight loss and muscle gain will change the fit on your bike.

I would bring it in the LBS and see what they say first about both.

Your pictures were priceless and made my heart smile when I viewed them on FB. :)))

Busy girl. no wonder your pants don't fit.

Now sure about the burning. Wish I could offer some wise wisdom.

Good job fitting in that long run. Its strange when our weekends are basically over before they begin :( Have fun thought!

Awesome job on the weight loss! Woohoo!

My first thought about the calf pain is that something may be off with your bike fit. The way you're pedaling might effect your calves more, so when you hop off to run, your calves are already taxed from the bike. If possible, I would bring it in to a bike shop, tell them your problem, and see if they'll look at your fit.

Don't ever be sorry for having to buy smaller jeans - that's sooo awesome :). Very proud of you girl! Have a really great weekend! Thanks for the wishes...not sure I'll do you "proud" but I'll be there representing blog world nevertheless - ha!! Hugs!

my goodness, you continue to impress the hell out of me! Nice work with the P90X...obviously it works well. You totally deserve a new pair of jeans that fit.

I'm with big daddy diesel on the calf issue. Doesn't sound like the right kind of "pain" you would normally experience from a brick workout. Definitely check the cleat position on your shoe. Possibly seat height and position.

Have a great weekend Mel!

how exciting about how the jeans are fitting (or rather, how they are NOT fitting tight enough these days). I've gone from muffin top to jeans that fit. I really want to get to the point of needing new ones a size smaller!

So glad to hear all that hard work is paying off! You are looking fabulous!!

Others have mentioned what I was going to say, that it may be a cleat issue with your bike fit. Get it checked out, and hopefully that will help!

OK...that is some serious MOJO to get back on the P90X train (which I have sadly fallen off of this week..sigh)

I second BDD, check the bike fit specifically the cleat postitioning and/or the saddle height (too high).

Isn't it great when you get results like needing new jeans?

Love the high five. That's awesome. And the weight loss! Is that all from just watching your calorie intake? It worked for me the first couple weeks and now it seems to be leveling off a bit.

Congrats on the weight loss!

In regards to your calves during BRICKS... I have never had that happen to me before. usually I just have the typical feeling of dead legs when I get off the bike and start running. Maybe it has something to do with the bike and how it fits?! Or your shoes? I would get that checked out!

Velma said...

Sounds like you are making a ton of progress!! In terms of the calves, maybe you could look into a new bike fit - that might help

Way to go on the weight loss!!

I've never had that prob with fiery calfs after a bike ride but a really good bike fit might help. My husband got one of those professional bike fits where they spend about half a day measuring all sorts of angles and really dial in and optimize what you're doing when pedaling. It was pretty pricey but with his history of knee probs it was well worth it. Besides adjusting bike seat and handle bars, they fine tuned bike cleat positions and prescribed bike shoe orthotics for him.

Hope you're able to find a solution!
