First time for everything!!

I got the pre-race email today for Sunday's Olympic distance Aquabike! I'm getting super excited!! Few things are going through my head right now...
  • No run following the bike, ride hard! No need to save anything for the run! There is NO run!
  • Last Saturday's OWS we covered 1600m, 100m more than the race course. I CAN DO THIS!
  • Swam a timed 1500m Tuesday night at masters (pool), in 27:50. I CAN DO THIS!
  • Thanks to Big Daddy Diesel, I know that there's no "finish line" to cross with the Aquabike event, no exciting finish to look forward to. Once I'm back in transition from the ride, my race is over. I'm ready for that.
  • The lake in which we do our OWS every Saturday is pretty weedy -- coach said if I can swim there, I can swim anywhere.
  • Swim cut-off time is 1h 10 min. I CAN DO THIS!
  • Never done one, and there doesn't seem to be many available. The good -- automatic PR! The bad -- not many available, will have to work on those bricks, and the shin-burning-off-the-bike-only thing.
  • I'm racing this one alone. I know no one there... I'm all grown up.
  • The swim is two loop course, with an exit from the water, short run along the beach before heading out again. Means staying closer to shore... bonus.
  • Olympic swim will be in waves of estimated finish time, rather than age. I think I like this better!

    Under 23 min- red
    23-25 min-     royal blue
    25-27 min-      white
    27-29 min-      baby blue
    29-31 min-      purple
    31-33 min.-     yellow
    33-35 min.-     pink
    35+ min. -       green

I'm thinking yellow?? but I already have a swim cap that color... hmmmm. Any thoughts?!

Hope you all have a great weekend... and to those of you racing, have a great race!! Wanted to also give a special shout-out to my friend Jerry, who will be doing marathon #4 of 26 (+1 Ironman) series!! You rock!!

seed yourself a little faster than you think. The faster swimmers will pull you along.

At least purple.

Sounds fun! With my arthritis, this could be an option for me in the future. OH, but I haven't been in the water since SEPTEMBER! Could be a problem. ;)

This sounds SO fun! I really want to get in another open water swim in a race atmosphere, but I can't find any that fit in :( but I do know we have some aquabikes here so I should look into that!

You're a good swimmer! I suck and would be in the last wave! lol I say pic a wave a little faster than you think you'll go and I am sure you'll surprise yourself :)

It was different, wasnt it, the no run, the unclimatic finish, glad you were able to learn about it before hand, it left me in little shock

It sounds like this will be a piece of cake for you! I also like how they're doing the waves. Makes sense!
